Such a fun time of year! The kids are so excited about the change of seasons, wearing long sleeve shirts, raking leaves (not!) and one other thing...what was it? Oh, yes...HALLOWEEN! Costumes, candy, trick-or-treating, more candy, the pumpkin patch, candy, the corn maze...you get the picture!

How perfect that the theme for the Etsy Bloggers Team Carnival is:

Halloween is just around the corner. What is the best Halloween costume you've ever worn or designed for someone else to wear? What made it so special?

When I read the question I knew just what I would write about. In October 2000, shortly after we were married, my husband and I joined several friends at a bread and breakfast located in a little blip of a town called Volcano for a Halloween party.

I made my costume a couple of years before...a huge coat from a thrift store laid out on the floor as I hot glue gunned faux fur around the edges, a bright red purse I found for $1, a wig from a costume shop, and voila! I'm Cruella De Vil. But this year was different. My hubby decided to take it to the next level and dress as a huge Dalmatian puppy. I'm not sure if I'm more amazed that he wanted to do it, or the fact that we actually found a costume in his size.

Add a black leather, spiked collar and a cigar and we were quite the couple. I recall we even won a prize in the costume contest. And just think, one puppy that size could make a couple of coats!

Just Breathe

I've been reminding myself to do that a lot lately. 

We're in one of those crazy phases in our lives right now with so much change it's hard to keep up. The light at the end is bright and we know we'll get there soon, but no routine and no consistency is tough on my "plan-everything-try-to-maintain-control" personality!

This ring is one of the first pieces I created when I started Punky Jane almost two years ago, and it's still one of my favs!

And I wear mine everyday...just in case I forget.

When I look at the work of my buddy Vickie Porter of In My Head Studios, I always think to myself (after I take in the pure art and beauty), "I seriously could never do that!" The obvious patience and attention to detail she has astounds me. Just look at the detail in this piece....

This gorgeous necklace is made from a colorful collage that "is a tiny print of a larger work of art that I made specifically for my domino pendant jewelry. It's all about the backpack

In our house, back to school always means a new backpack, lunch box, and cool supplies to fill them up. 

While shopping with two under-10 girls is no easy task, they've learned to make their selections from the displays with a big "SALE" sign above or those wonderful little orangey-red clearance stickers at Target. Good girls!

This year, Tinkerbell's sparkly fairy wings and Paul Frank's space monkeys won. The Tinkerbell pack even came with a little velcro band for the front so the wearer looks like she's wearing a skirt. Pretty cute.

School started extremely early for us this year. The hardest transition, of course, was bed time and then getting up earlier, but these two packs helped make the first day of school even more exciting.

Let's hope the excitement (and the packs!) hold up for awhile!

The Before [and a little bit during]

It's finally done! Well, almost. 

Anyone who's taken on a DIY project around the house knows that the word 'done' is an elusive little bugger.

I guess it's safe to say that I'll be able to move my Punky Jane studio into the new space soon. And to be a little more specific: very soon.

I thought I'd share a few pictures of the transformation. 

First, THE BEFORE:

After emptying out the room, I had to test paint colors right away. Stormy Sea or Frozen Pond? 

Frozen Pond wins! I love the way it looks with the white ceiling and the flooring that my sweet husband rescued from the dump. [note the whacky angle of the wall. The room started out with this odd shape...it's not just leaning!]

We have a running joke in our house that he comes home from the dump with more than he took. But when I look at this floor and the bike he built for our 8 year old from 'dump parts,' I can't help but be impressed.

Flutterby

It all started [again] with a "one little Winnie the Pooh for a friend's grandchild as a Christmas gift."

Reading the profile for the EtsyTwitter Team Shop of the Week, crochetgal, I just had to smile when I got the that line.

One of my favs from her shop is this Lace Butterfly Shawl...made me think of the flutterby from Winnie the Pooh.

And look at this amazing Shrug! The detail is amazing and it has a bit of a vintage feel with the 3/4-sleeve and the oversized collar.

Although I learned the art of crochet as a teenager in the 70s, it fell by the wayside as my life adventure took its path.

It resurfaced again at the start of the new millenium with one little Winnie the Pooh for a friend's grandchild as a Christmas gift. Before Winnie could even be delivered to that little one, friends were asking to purchase them from me. Little did I know that it would eventually turn into a small business. Within a few years, I was trying various methods of crochet, along with different pattern designs and before long I was actually designing a few simple pieces.
