Front Page! [and the tools that let me know]

I got the coveted email notification this morning from the Statsy Featurator that my Picture This personalized portrait necklace had been featured on the front page of Etsy in a collection of ideas for Mother's Day. Great way to start the weekend!

Once I was featured, the MyEtsy App automatically posted the news to my Punky Jane Facebook page. Wow...I got a lot done without doing a thing! Gotta love that.

I missed the actual front page, but thanks to CraftCult.com, I was able to grab a screen shot, as well as a widget to add to my website and blog. Whew!

That listing sold, but I can always make more: Picture This personalized sterling silver necklace.

Etsy sellers, if you aren't using these tools already, I highly recommend them all.

Look What Punky Found ::
Shimmering Shack

CONTINENT'S EDGE by SHIMMERING SHACK

Once in awhile, as your browse the amazing treasuries put together by etsians, you come across something that simply takes your breath away.

Today, that happened to me. I want to share the talents of Shimmering Shack. And a big thanks to Suzanne at ThreePeats for finding it first!

Enjoy the soft peaceful colors. Enjoy the feeling that you are there, teetering on the edge of the earth. And while you are there, enjoy the rest of this talented artist's shop.

From her profile:
Inspiration rolls in on the breakers along the Pacific shores. Colors & moods shift with the fogbanks under the western sun. Light breaks through the marine layer, sparkles on the water, absorbs into the warm sand, rocks, & coastal vegetation.

Life feels simpler, clearer, more primal, in tune with the seasons, tides, weather & time. Sand warms your toes, wind cools your back, sun bakes your skin. Your pace slows as you listen to the rhythmic crashing of the waves & contemplate distant horizons & the Pacific’s deep mysteries. Your spirit lifts as you relax with the lizards & swim with the fish.

Here in Shimmering Shack's studios I’ve tried to capture the spirit of this place I call home. The contrast between the sparkling blue liquid of the Pacific & the toasty warm sand on the shores, the change of seasons, day to night; the slow passage of time to be savored at the edge of the continent, on the verge of the Pacific. The anticipation of travel, destination, discovery, & at last the realization of our oneness with it all. This is my inspiration. I hope that each piece I create carries a bit of this inspiration with it to you. Enjoy.

What's Your Favorite Hindsight Etsy Tip?

I just experienced a 'doh!' moment. I was lucky enough to be included in a Gift Guide on Etsy. Problem? No. Not until the item sells and I am no longer part of the Gift Guide!

Hindsight Etsy Tip: If you are lucky enough to be included in a Gift Guide, quickly change your quantity available to more than one. Then, if it sells, it stays in the Gift Guide.

Now I haven't tested this theory, but it makes sense that it would work. And it might just work if your item shows up on the Front Page. Might eek out a few more minutes of fame. And how nice would it be to keep those item views and hearts??

What's your favorite Hindsight Etsy Tip? That little morsel that you learned from experience that we can all benefit from and be better, more efficient etsians. Post your comment and I'll compile a list.

Shades of Summer

I put this little treasury together today in preparation for Sunday's Summer Solstice. Be sure to check out these wonderful items from the EtsyTwitter Team! [EXPIRES 1AM, JUNE 22]

For the love of font

Etsy continues to amaze me.

It would be enough for them to simply offer a place for us crafty-types to sell our goods, but they take it to the next level and beyond.

The overall interface, the technology, the functionality, the communication with sellers, promotions, pricing...all top-notch. But the thing that really sets it apart is the ability for members to promote other members.

There is a wonderful section called the Treasury, hundreds of member-curated listings of featuring their favorite items. The process of selecting your favorites is easy...there are literally hundreds of thousands of handmade items to choose from. And getting a Treasury of your own is relatively simple, but you have to be persistent and have perfect timing. I have found myself several times waiting for one or two listings to expire [they last about 3 days] so that the total number of Treasuries drops below that magic number of 333 when new spots open.

Poof! The box appears, you type your Treasury name and create your list. Now there are probably over 800 lists! That many people clicked at that exact moment to claim their own spot.

As an etsian, I think we all [secretly or not] want to be chosen for someone’s Treasury. A handful of these hundreds of lists actually make it to the front page, and I know we all want that.

I’d like to thank PaperMail [www.PaperMail.etsy.com] for selecting my Alphabetcha Necklace to be in her very cool typographic Treasury a few days ago. No front page this time, but lots of new views and a few new folks that heart Punky Jane! Thank you!!
