Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Theodor Seuss Giesel aka Dr. Seuss was born March 2, 1904. Let's celebrate his birthday and our love of reading!

The National Education Association's Read Across America Day, a national event held in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, is Monday, March 3rd this year.

I say, let's celebrate for two days!

Who didn't read Dr. Seuss books growing up or have green eggs and ham at school? How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a holiday must-read.

Here in the Punky Jane studio, we're big Dr. Seuss fans. After work (and school) we're going to pull out all of our Dr. Seuss books for a fun night of reading.

Look What Punky Found: Hand Lettered Paper Goods

I'm truly in awe of those who can create beautiful hand lettering. The talent, time, and patience are amazing! As a typography lover, I find the combination of hand lettering and typography even more inspiring. Emily of EmDashPaperCo (EmDash...love the typography reference), has created some truly amazing bookmarks, stamps, stickers, and stationery with her modern calligraphy.

We have a couple of book lovers in my house, so these bookmarks really stood out. I'm sure they'd be well appreciated! That being said, book lovers can be territorial about their books, so Emily's 'Dont Steal It' stamp would be an even bigger hit.

Jump Start Your Happy Thoughts

We all have those days. Days where we need to remind ourselves of all the good things.

Sitting on my office shelf, always easy to see, is this sweet little book called 14,000 things to be happy about by Barbara Ann Kipfer. (You can purchase the revised and updated edition on Amazon.)

I've had this book for years. It's a wonderful little treasure. The author spent 20 years recording the small things that made her happy and then compiled and published her book.

On days I need a little boost, I simply glance through the pages until I find something that sparks a happy thought. It's amazing how once one happy thought is planted, my mind will just take off.

Today I landed on page 219. The word "Crayola" and "I love you" jumped right off the page. All warm and fuzzy again.

Sometimes, just seeing the cover makes me smile. That was easy.

Look What Punky Found: Creative Thursday

While searching for a little creative spark this chilly Thursday morning, I came across "Creative Thursday" by Marisa. Couldn't be more literal, right?

What an inspiration!

Marisa Anne was working a 9 to 5 job in a creative field (interior design), but she didn't have time for creativity. She decided to do something about it. She set aside one day each week for fun and creativity.  You guessed it...Thursday.

Her adorable illustrations are even available as fabric! Read about her "Locally Grown" line of fabrics.
